Independent Lucille Brotherton has no intention of following her sisters into matrimony. She can’t imagine ever becoming a gentleman’s obedient wife.
Lord Oscar Brampton, meanwhile, has decided it is time to marry. He knows exactly what he wants – a quiet, sensible and, above all, biddable bride. Headstrong Lucille is most certainly not that woman.
But when Oscar’s younger brother threatens Lucille’s reputation, there is only one way to save her from scandal. Oscar offers marriage, and Lucille reluctantly accepts.
As their wedding approaches, the pair begin to discover that a marriage neither wanted might offer more happiness than either expected.
However, with Oscar’s troubled brother determined to come between them, their unexpected happiness is threatened before it has even begun.
