Too Hot! Too late?

This past month has been too cold and too hot. When in St Malo the second week of this month, doing vital research for my next Regency romantic adventure series, it was so cold we had to put the CH on and I had to buy a warm jacket.

Then for the next two weeks here in the UK it’s been blisteringly hot. I’m in between books at the moment, fortunately, as I can’t work when it’s over 27c. It was 0ver 29c indoors and 36.5c outside in the shade. Lay like a limp lettuce on the bed too enervated even to read. I’m getting AC installed on 4th of August as I can’t be in a situation where I can’t work.

I’m really lucky that I can afford to do this, that I work from home, can stop when I want, drink cool water all day. What about those who can’t? My gardener almost past out at one of his last job, they had to revive him. You might think – silly, why did he work in that heat? He can’t afford not to, like lots of low income families, if they don’t work whatever the weather, they don’t get paid.

In the UK a workplace can’t be below a certain temperature in the winter – not sure what it its -but no limit exists in law for high temperatures. This is, I expect, because no one expected us to have regular temperatures over 30c

Global warming, climate change, call it what you like, but if something isn’t done by those in power soon large parts of Europe will be uninhabitable. I hope the world hasn’t left it too late.

Blissfully cool this morning, but another heatwave is imminent.
