Too many books?
Posted on 2nd February, 2024
At the moment I’ve got seven books on preorder – and I think this is rather too many. What do you think?
I am contracted for sixteen of my backlist books – those that I indie published many years ago. I’m also contracted to write 3/4 new titles every year. I don’t know why Boldwood – an amazing publisher that I’m very proud and happy to be with – decided to bring all my sixteen extra books out in a twelve month period. This meant that there were seven books out last year and there will be sixteen this year. I really don’t know why they didn’t space them out so there were three new books and say four of my back list in a year and not bring them all out in a heap.
I honestly don’t think that my readers will read nineteen books by me in one twelve month period – I just write the books, I don’t market or edit them and went along with the idea without really considering the implications. Our CEO is first class and if she agreed this was the best way to bring them out then I’ll have to sit back and see if the Boldwood team were correct.
This also means that every other week I am sent a list of things to do related to books that I haven’t seen or read for a decade as well as continuing to write my own book and do edits for the one that’s coming out in May. To be honest, my head’s spinning.
I don’t know how many books that you read in a year – I’ve read more than twenty since Christmas but I think I’m fairly unusual. If I like a book then I read it in two evenings.
Until next time
