Should we be worried?

Posted on 28th February, 2025

I know that some people think that writers, actors and other media people shouldn’t be political but as far as I’m concerned saying nothing when evil stalks the world is the same as agreeing with it.
The more I see of Trump and his acolyte Musk, the more I hear about what’s going on in America, the more worried I am about the rest of the world. There are only multimillionaires and billionaires in his cabinet and other appointees – every one of them has a vested interest in what’s going on. Musk – an unelected and unapproved person interfering with America’s democracy – has literally billions of contracts with the government.
The contracts that are being cancelled – guess what? They are the ones of his competitors leaving him to scoop up everything for his own companies. Trump called the leader of Ukraine a dictator but when asked later why he’d said that he said “Did I say that? It’s not something I would say.”

Americans have woken up, I fear, too late to stop the oligarchy taking over the country. The people who will miss out financially and in every other way as these appalling measures bite, cutting Medicaid, overseas aid, federal employees who keep the country running and make sure there’s no corruption and waste, keep the planes flying safely and all the other good that they do, are those that will suffer the most.
My heart goes out to all Americans, even those who still, despite seeing everything that happened, hearing everything that’s been said, still support Trump and his fascist regime.

Let’s hope that sensible people will finally step up and put the brakes on what’s going on before all of us are dragged into the mire.

I apologise to those that think Trump is going to save America – he promised that from day one groceries would go down, inflation would go down, and eggs would be cheaper. Inflation has gone up by 3%, eggs have gone up by 30% and no grocery price has fallen. However, the richest in the country have benefited by billions.
Should we be worried about what’s happening across the Atlantic? Yes, we should be concerned, but it’s up to our leaders the step up and be counted. We must continue to support Zielinski and Ukraine, Europe must put aside its differences and stand as one otherwise I fear, Putin, knowing that his friend Trump won’t step in, will start invading other countries, NATO countries, and where will it end?

A depressing blog this month – and I sincerely hope my fears are unfounded and that by some miracle America will find its way back to democracy and common sense.

Best wishes
