Are Reviews Essential?
Posted on 30th November, 2022
Another month has slipped away and now Christmas is upon us. Well – slight exaggeration as it’s not even December until tomorrow. My grandson came last Saturday so my decorations are already up. Expected Loki ot wreck the tree but so far he’s ignored it. Might be because I’ve landscapers here redesigning my garden – diggers and other machines have sent cat cowering in the airing cupboard.
I’ve signed another eight book contract with Boldwood – they wanted me to sign up for twelve books but that was a bit too much. I’m doing so well with my books, the Head of Zeus and Boldwood ones. Thank you so much for reading them and then leaving such wonderful reviews. All writers say that having hundreds of reviews is what gets you into Amazon promotions and gives you traction. I’m not sure that they actually influence readers. Do you check the reviews before buying? I certainly don’t. I go by recommendation, or look for a new book from a writer I’ve read before.
That said, I’m pleased I get so many and 95% of them 4 & 5 *. The new books, The Land Girls of Goodwill House, https://mybook.to/Landgirls , already has over 1000 and out not quite a month. I rarely leave a book review as it can cause problems for writers as Amazon might think you are a friend of the writer and if that’s the case you can’t review. I never leave a bad review – if I don’t like a book I stop reading. I know writers whose books I don’t enjoy who are best sellers. Books are subjective and we can’t please everyone.
I now have the fifth book on pre-order. A Wartime Reunion at Goodwill House will be out on 2nd March. https://mybook.to/reunionatGoodwillHouse.
